Step 1 – Take control of the scene

If an accident or incident occurs the first step is to take control of the scene.

• As soon as possible apply the necessary first aid and/or call emergency services as required.
• Then secure the scene to prevent secondary accidents or incidents from occurring.

Duty to preserve sites

If the accident or incident is a Notifiable Event you must take all reasonable steps to ensure that the site where the event occurred is not disturbed until an inspector gives you authority to do so.
