Once you have selected your preferred candidate, it is time to make an offer.
Note: You must have your manager's approval BEFORE making any form of offer.
Ascertain Preferred Candidate's Interest
Once you have approval to proceed, contact the preferred candidate to ascertain whether they would be interested in receiving an offer from you. Describe what you're thinking in terms of pay rate and any other relevant conditions, such as probationary period, Police check, drug and alcohol testing and so on.
Note: Take great care with this. Do NOT make a "Verbal Offer" because if you make a verbal offer which the candidate accepts, then you have already entered in an employment contract with the candidate, who may later disagree with some of the terms of the written offer.
Generate the Written Agreement
Once you've ascertained that the candidate is interested in the role, then provide the written offer which comprises the relevant documents below:
Provide copies of documents to applicant
The offer of employment comprises the Vape Merchant Employment Agreement and the documents listed above. The Act specifies you must retain a copy of any proposed agreement, even if the applicant does not sign the agreement or agree to any of its terms.
Applicant considers proposal
Before the employee is asked to sign any employment agreement they should be given all the documents and allowed a reasonable opportunity to consider the offer and obtain independent advice if they so choose.
Sign Documents
It is mandatory that the successful candidate signs acceptance of the employment agreement before employment commences. If a person commences employment before an agreement is signed you may subsequently find it difficult to gain the employee’s acceptance of provisions within the agreement.
Trial Periods
Any new employee may be employed on the basis of a trial period of up to 90 days.
If offering a trial period, it is particularly important that the employee is given a reasonable opportunity to consider the offer and then signs the offer before the day they commence work (ie not on the day they start) otherwise the trial period will be null and void.
